UPSIDE DOWN CHOCOLATE PEAR CAKE

Ingredients:
80 g butter
3 tbs water
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 pears cored medium peeled sliced
Cake:
185 g butter softened
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 cups self-raising flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
3 eggs

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 170C.
Topping:
Place butter, sugar and water into a frying pan and allow to melt.
Add pears and cook until slightly softened.
Arrange the pears neatly in a round 23cm cake tin that has been greased and lined with baking paper.
Pour the butter and sugar mixture over the pears and set aside.
Cake:
Mix the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each egg.
Stir in sifted flour and cocoa. Mixture will be very thick.
Spoon the mixture carefully over the pears (it may not totally cover the pears but will during cooking).
Bake for 50-60 minutes.
Cool in tin and then turn out onto a serving plate.
